April in London from Treya Bolin on Vimeo.
The talented Treya Bolin just happens to be a friend of mine, so after viewing the film I decided to ask her a few quick questions. Get some insight…
Me: I watched your film last night and I must say I enjoyed it. I loved the close ups. Definitely caught the emotion of the characters every time. The actors did an exceptional job. Especially the girl who played London. Sorry, I don’t know her name right now.
Treya Bolin: Yeah! No Prob! Thanks! I appreciate what you wrote about my film. Just a little background on the film: The girl who played London her name is Yanil Molina, she’s an actress from NY that I casted. When I was pitching the film online on this casting website she reached out to me and when I seen her acting reel, I knew she’d be perfect for the part of London. She’s from the lower eastside of Manhattan so she naturally had that NY, tough and feisty style that I was looking for. I then had her meet me at William Paterson Univ. and had her read the screenplay. I was even more impressed by her acting in person as well as her silly personality.
Me: That’s really dope how you reached out to people. What about the other characters?
TB: As for the young lady who played April, her name is Jennifer Angeles, I already knew she’d be my main character because I’ve worked with her in my previous short films. I knew she’d give me an innocent and vulnerable April. Paula Del Moral played the mom. The way I found her was quite interesting. I had so much trouble trying to find a mother and Paula and me had an acting class together. Then one day in my acting class it hit me and I immediately asked her if she’d want to be apart of my project and she agreed. I was so happy I found her; she was a foreign exchange student from Puerto Rico so she naturally had that Puerto Rican accent that I was looking for. I casted one mom and unfortunately she couldn’t get the accents down or the lines that was written in Spanish. Paula was a perfect fit!
Me: Jennifer was awesome too, definitely. One thing that stood out to me was the sound. Not only was I impressed with the sound, I loved the music.
TB: I chose all of the music; I wanted a recurring song, so I chose the famous “Any other name” by Thomas Newman. We’ve all heard that song in the 1999 film American Beauty by Sam Mendes, With Kevin Spacey. It has that sound of curiousity and vulnerability and I wanted my viewers to feel curious and vulnerable just like April. The other music is by the pop group HAIM the band consists of two sisters. The song in the montage is called “Falling” and as you were able to see in the film, April was definitely “falling” for London.
Me: That’s ill. A lot of thought sent into that. Now you can correct me if I’m wrong, but what I got from the movie is that no matter who u date or what you fall in love with, family will always have your back. Is that right???
TB: For the message of the film, ehh you got it, sort of. However, the message in this film is saying: it doesn’t matter who you date, male or female, any sex you fall in love with can also break your heart. Too often females like to scold men for cheating, or somehow ruining the relationship and it’s common for many girls to find comfort in another female through conversation when they are truly feeling hurt. However, I think a lot of ladies get the wrong idea when they believe another woman won’t dog them out like how a man could. Trust me, females cheat too!

Me: I love it. Once again thank you very much for allowing me to share this with the people. We need more in the upcoming future.
